Principal Dental Surgeon

Anoup Nandra is Principal Dentist at Rock Dental, Wolverhampton, and Edgbaston Dental Centre, Birmingham, with over twenty years’ experience in general and implant dentistry. Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong interest in clinical governance, consent, and the evolving legal and ethical landscape of dentistry.

A Fellow of the College of General Dentistry, he serves on its Council as the elected West Midlands Representative and contributes regionally through his role on the Birmingham Local Dental Committee.

Qualifications and Education

Anoup Nandra qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2002 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). He has since gained multiple postgraduate qualifications, including the MFGDP (UK), MJDF RCS (Eng), Diploma in Implant Dentistry (Distinction) from UCL, and an MSc in Implant Dentistry from the University of Central Lancashire. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (Wolverhampton), an Expert Witness Certificate (Cardiff/Bond Solon), and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Medical Law and Ethics from Cardiff University.

Professional Appointments

Anoup is Principal Dentist at both Rock Dental (Wolverhampton) and Edgbaston Dental Centre (Birmingham), where he has overseen the growth of multi-specialist teams and referral services. He is a Council Member and Chair of Membership Panel for the College of General Dentistry and sits on the Birmingham Local Dental Committee. He also serves as a National Mentor in the fields of dental implantology and conscious sedation. He has provided implant training with many course providers, and since 2009 has worked extensively as a Dental Expert Witness for numerous law firms.

Anoup’s main areas of clinical practice are:

• Restorative dentistry

• Dento-legal reporting as a dental expert witness

He has trained in multiple implant systems including Astra, Ankylos, Nobel Biocare, Straumann and DIO, and provides both surgical and restorative implant care. He has a special interest in managing anxious patients with sedation and in complex treatment planning for full-mouth rehabilitation.

Teaching, Lecturing and Publications

A passionate educator, Anoup has lectured nationally and internationally on implantology, restorative dentistry, professional development, and ethics. He has published in the British Dental Journal and Primary Dental Journal, and previously served on the Editorial Board of Young Dentist Magazine. He has delivered courses for West Midlands Deanery, Tipton Training, 3M, Dentistry Live, and international conferences in South Korea.

Achievements

Anoup has been recognised widely for his contributions to dentistry. He was named in Private Dentistry’s Elite 20 (2014), and won Best Young Dentist Midlands at the Dentistry Awards (2012). His practices have been finalists for Best Team and Best Practice, and his clinical work has been shortlisted for the Smile Awards.

Medico-Legal Work

Since 2007, Anoup has acted as an Expert Witness, producing around 25 medico-legal reports per year. He is Bond Solon/Cardiff University trained, and is a panel member for multiple legal firms, instructed on cases involving negligence, consent, and complex clinical disputes.

Anoup has appeared on ITV and BBC News discussing dentistry and patient care, including topics such as NHS access, children’s oral health, and the effects of diet on teeth.

Outside of Dentistry

Dr Nandra enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a keen cricketer and plays for a local team at the weekends. Currently, he is doing his best to improve his golf handicap. Anoup is also a long-suffering supporter of Worcestershire CC and Aston Villa FC.
