Dental Hygienist

Lauren Chipman is an award-winning Dental Hygienist at Rock Dental, passionate about prevention, education, and helping patients build lifelong confidence in their oral health. Known for her empathy and resilience, she has turned her own journey of overcoming challenges into inspiration for patients, students, and colleagues alike.

Professional Journey

Lauren began her dental career in 2016 as a Dental Nurse, gaining extensive qualifications in radiography, sedation, venepuncture, and clinical photography. In 2024 she graduated with a BSc in Dental Hygiene from the University of Portsmouth, having served as a BSDHT Student Representative.

Since qualifying, she has been recognised nationally:

• Highly Commended Dental Hygienist of the Year – The Probe Awards 2025
• Highly Commended Rising Star (North) – The Dentistry Awards 2025

Lauren sits on the Midlands BSDHT Committee, supporting CPD events and mentoring students, and has published articles in BDJ Student and the Dental Nursing Journal.

Clinical Expertise

At Rock Dental, Lauren provides all aspects of dental hygiene care, with a special focus on:

• Supporting nervous patients using calm communication, breathwork techniques, and the Tell-Show-Do method.
• Using intraoral photography and 3D scanning to monitor gum health, tooth wear, and patient progress.
• Educating children and families in practice and through community outreach programmes.

Her vigilance has also led to timely referrals for oral cancer and systemic conditions, highlighting her role in early detection.

Contribution to the Profession

Lauren is committed to raising the profile of dental hygiene and empowering others:

• Actively mentors trainee dental nurses and hygiene students, both in practice and through social media.
• Provides career talks at schools and colleges, sharing her journey from dental nurse to hygienist.
• Leads initiatives in clinical photography training for colleagues and contributes to professional study days.

Life at Rock Dental

Lauren describes Rock Dental as a team where “compassion, education, and innovation go hand in hand.” She values the mentorship from senior colleagues and the multidisciplinary approach that ensures patients benefit from shared expertise.

Beyond Dentistry

Outside the clinic, Lauren leads an active lifestyle. She enjoys running, swimming, Pilates, skiing, and long walks with her dog, Lola. Travel is another passion – she plans to visit all seven continents.

She also connects her hobbies to her professional ethos: in April 2025 she completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon, raising £850 for the Mouth Cancer Foundation. She has also coordinated oral health donations for communities in Ghana and plans to join Rock Dental’s outreach mission in 2025.
